Tips: You will need a motorway vignette for Austria. To drive through Hungary and Romania your car will need country-of-origin identification, and you will also need a green international insurance card from your car insurance company (valid for 2 years). At the Hungarian border you will need your identity card or your passport. In Hungary you will need "Forints" for the motorway toll. In Hungary, you have to drive with dipped headlights. When you arrive at the (Hungarian)-Romanian border you lose an hour, i.e. you will need to put your watch forward from e.g. 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.. You no longer need a visa to visit Romania. You can change money at any bank en route. In Romania, the towns, villages and traffic signs are not lit up at night and often there are people, unlit horse-drawn carts, flocks of sheep or other animals on the road. There are hardly any road markings, so it is difficult to drive in the dark, especially if it is raining, and progress is slow. It is highly recommendable not to drive at night at all.
