Travel reports (11)
from Patricia and Juergen, March 2005 patriciasipos @ aol.com Hi Erwin, first of all the long journey from Cluj airport through the West Carpathian woods, no oncoming traffic, and then finally on reaching our destination, snow that reached up to our chests and that feeling of "where am I"?; The contrast between the winters in Germany and in Romania could not be greater: - Horses harnessed to heavy goods vehicles as the breakdown service - Horse-drawn sleighs in full gallop over dry tarmac - Log transporters travelling along the river bed - Teams of cows pulling logs - Cars being repaired and firewood prepared along the roadside The West Carpathian sayings are quite inventive too: - When the eagle speaks, the bird should be silent - Here we have 7 months of winter, for 5 months it is cold, and the summer was on a Thursday - After losing the cork we have to keep drinking until the bottle is empty - We rest in the afternoon so that we can sleep at night - May the Good Lord give you the same strength as in the breast of a grieved horse - A little brandy in between doesn't do you any harm - We wish you 100 years of health without a general overhaul See you soon, Patricia and Juergen
